El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail Association (CARTA) facilitates goodwill, cooperation, and understanding among communities, and promotes the education, conservation, and protection of the multicultural and multiethnic history and traditions associated with the living trail, El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro.

CARTA International Symposium
Autumn 2013

In September 2013, the Camino Real Trail Association will sponsor an international symposium, “Los Caminos Reales de América,” in El Paso, Texas.

The symposium will begin on Thursday, September 26 with a reception and an opening keynote address provided by Dr. John Kessell, Professor Emeritus, University of New Mexico. On Friday and Saturday, September 27-28, scholars will present on wide-ranging topics on various aspects of the histories of Royal Roads in Spain’s New World Empire; all speakers’ sessions will be held on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso and at the Hilton Garden Inn University. A post-conference tour of Camino Real-related historic sites in the El Paso area will be offered on Sunday, September 29.

Conference registration information is soon forthcoming, and CARTA members, friends, and the public are welcomed to attend. We look forward to seeing you in El Paso!
